Avocados, citrus, vegetables, strawberries, and nursery products are grown.  and Camarillo's Vitesse Semiconductor Corp. Amgen fell $2.325 to $67.0625. Vitesse fell $2.21875 to $32.50.

HOT HOMES: Prices and sales of Southern California Southern California, also colloquially known as SoCal, is the southern portion of the U.S. state of California. Centered on the cities of Los Angeles and San Diego, Southern California is home to nearly 24 million people and is the nation's second most populated region,  homes increased at their fastest rates of the decade during July, a real estate information service said Friday. In the six-county area a total of 29,303 houses and condos sold, up 31.4 percent from July 1997, said Acxiom Corp.'s DataQuick Products Division. The July sales count was the highest since October 1989 when 29,653 homes were sold. The year-over-year increase was the highest since January 1989 when sales increased 36.0 percent to 20,656. In Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  County, sales increased 26.4 percent and the median price was $190,000, up 10.5 percent. Sales in Ventura County increased 51 percent and the median price rose 10.9 percent to $224,000.

Hostile takeovers are usually bad news, as the employee moral of the target firm can quickly turn to animosity against the acquiring firm.

Preferred stock is given preference over common stock. Holders of preferred stock receive dividends at a fixed annual rate.
. An executive said Film Roman has not received any such offer. Film Roman stock was unchanged at $1.375.

RANCH SALE: Lebec-based Tejon Ranch Tejon Ranch Company is the largest private landowner in California. It was incorporated in 1936 to organise the ownership of a large tract of land originally comprised of four Mexican land grants, and began ranching in the 1840's.  Co. has agreed to sell a 1,415-acre parcel to Northrop Grumman Corp. for $4.25 million. Northrop has leased the site, which is used as a radar test range, from Tejon Ranch since 1980. Tejon Ranch is a agribusiness, land and real estate development company with holdings in north Los Angeles and south Kern counties.
