VALLEY INDEX DROPS: Stocks in the Daily News/Bloomberg Index fell 0.66 to 136.50, led by Litton Industries Named after inventor Charles Litton Sr., Litton Industries was a large defense contractor in the United States, bought by the Northrop Grumman Corporation in 2001.  Inc. of Woodland Hills and Newhall's Special Devices Inc. Litton fell 1 11/16 to 57 5/16. Special Devices fell 1-5/8 to 28-7/8.

PUBLISHING STOPS: Citing ``philosophical differences,'' the publishers of the Spanish-language version of Playboy magazine have suspended publication in the United States United States, officially United States of America, republic (2005 est. pop. 295,734,000), 3,539,227 sq mi (9,166,598 sq km), North America. The United States is the world's third largest country in population and the fourth largest country in area.  and Mexico, and the Mexican publisher has filed a lawsuit against Playboy Enterprises Playboy Enterprises, Inc. (NYSE: PLA), also organized as New Playboy, Inc. (NYSE: PLAA), is the company founded by Hugh Hefner to manage the Playboy magazine empire. It was created in 1953 as the HMH Publishing Co., Inc.  Inc. Playboy, Un Estilo de Vida (``A Lifestyle'') had been published in Mexico for about 20 years by Editorial Caballero S.A. and, since last year, in the United States under a joint venture with Pasadena-based Grupo Siete International Inc. The Spanish version had been published under license from Playboy Enterprises. The suit was filed by Editorial Caballero earlier this month in 332nd District Court in Hidalgo County, Texas Hidalgo County is a county located in the U.S. state of Texas. In 2000, its population was 569,463; in 2006, the U.S. Census Bureau estimated its population to have reached 700,634. .

DEAL STRUCK: The Regent Beverly Wilshire agreed to a union contract that provides workers ``significant wage and benefit increases'' and job security, labor leaders announced. Local 11 of the Hotel Employees & Restaurant Employees Union said the new accord will cover about 400 of its members who work at the hotel on Wilshire Boulevard, across from Rodeo Drive.
