IN BRIEF : EARNINGS CALNETICS CORP.VALLEY INDEX FALLS: Stocks in the Daily News/Bloomberg Index fell 48 cents to 131.48, led by Minimed Inc. and Semtech Corp. ?13- Bloomberg News CHEROKEE EXTENDS LICENSE: Cherokee Inc. of Van Nuys extended its licensing agreement with Pamida Inc. through Dec. 31, 2001, guaranteeing at least an additional $650,000 in revenues for the former apparel and shoe company. Cherokee's business today is licensing its brand name. The agreement with Pamida, a Midwest discount retailer, includes women's, men's and boy's apparel. Other categories also are being considered. ?13- Daily News SONY SETS BOND DEAL: Sony Pictures plans to make a series of James Bond movies, with the first to be released in 1999, in partnership with Kevin McClory, who produced ``Thunderball'' and ``Never Say Never Again.'' However, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, which has released all but one of the 18 Bond movies, said it owns the rights to the Bond franchise. ?13- Daily News L.A. GEAR CHANGES OWNERS: L.A. Gear announced its president, chief executive officer and seven other board members quit as an investment partnership bought a controlling stake in the troubled shoemaker. PCH Investments bought 42 percent of L.A. Gear from Trefoil trefoil (trē`foil) [O.Fr.,=three-leaf], in botany, name for several plants, chiefly of the pulse family, having trifoliate leaves.
