IN AN OUTDOOR CEREMONY on the fields of Runnymede near London, Sandy D'Alemberte and Homer E. Moyer, Jr., co-founders of the American Bar Association American Bar Association (ABA), voluntary organization of lawyers admitted to the bar of any state. Founded (1878) largely through the efforts of the Connecticut Bar Association, it is devoted to improving the administration of justice, seeking uniformity of law  Central and East European Law Initiative, were recognized for CEELI's contribution to advance the principles of the Magna Carta. D'Alemberte is a former ABA president and is currently president of Florida State University Florida State University, at Tallahassee; coeducational; chartered 1851, opened 1857. Present name was adopted in 1947. Special research facilities include those in nuclear science and oceanography. . Moyer is in private practice in Washington, D.C. CEELI, a public service project of the ABA, promotes the rule of law by enlisting volunteer professionals to strengthen legal reforms in 22 countries throughout Central and Eastern Europe The term "Central and Eastern Europe" came into wide spread use, replacing "Eastern bloc", to describe former Communist countries in Europe, after the collapse of the Iron Curtain in 1989/90.  and the former Soviet Union. Pictured at the Magna Carta Memorial, which was erected in England by the American Bar Association, are, from the left, U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor Sandra Day O'Connor (born March 26 1930) is an American jurist who served as the first female Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States from 1981 to 2006. She was considered a strict constructionist. , the Rt. Hon Lord Woolf, the Lord Chief Justice, former ABA President William Paul, Moyer, D'Alemberte, Rt. Hon. Lord Justice Nourse, acting master of the Rolls, and U.S. Ambassador to the Court of St. James the usual designation of the British Court; - so called from the old palace of St. James, which is used for the royal receptions, levees, and drawing-rooms.
