His car was one of more than 50 vintage automobiles that filled a Borchard Park lot during Saturday's kickoff picnic for the 43rd annual Conejo Valley The Conejo Valley is a region spanning both Southeastern Ventura County and Northwest Los Angeles County in Southern California, United States. ,'' said Vern Miller, past president of the Conejo Valley Rotary Club, which organized the event. ``There's a lot of nostalgia in these cars. They are meticulously maintained. It gives you a feeling of being young again. I look at the 1956 Chevrolet and I remember I wasn't old enough to drive back then.''

Brill's Pontiac had a carhop tray hanging off the passenger window holding plastic replicas of a fast food items and a menu sporting 1950s prices: hamburger, 25 cents; cheeseburger, 35 cents; hotdog, 20 cents; fries, 15 cents; sodas, 10 cents; and malts, 35 cents.

Scott Gillies, 31, of Simi Valley Simi Valley (sē`mē, sĭm`ē), city (1990 pop. 100,217), Ventura co., SW Calif. in an oil, fruit, and farm region; laid out 1887, inc. 1969.  said he has dreamed of owning a vintage automobile for as long as he can remember.

``They don't make cars like this anymore - the quality, the look,'' he said. ``These are pure class.''

As many as 100,000 people are expected to attend this year's Conejo Valley Days, which organizers boast is the state's largest nonprofit, all volunteer community event.

Organizers hope to raise $50,000 for charities countywide.

``Every nickel that we raise goes back into the community,'' Miller said.

The picnic also featured a tiny tots beauty contest, petting zoo, horseshoe tournament, pony rides and nominees for this year's Conejo Valley Days grand marshal Grand Marshal is a ceremonial, military, or political office of very high rank. The term has its origins with the word "Marshal" with the first usage of the term "Grand Marshal" as a ceremonial title for certain religious orders. .

Candidates representing Thousand Oaks Elks 2477, Conejo Valley Youth Employment, and the Conejo Valley Historical Society will compete with one another to raise the most money by mid-April for their organizations' favorite charities.

The winner will be crowned grand marshal and will ride in a parade prior to the Conejo Valley Days festival.
