IN A BAD RELATIONSHIP? 'CRAZY LOVE' IS WORSE.

Byline: Bob Strauss

Not being from New York New York, state, United States

, I've thoroughly missed out on one of the most delectably bent tabloid treats of the last 50 years.

But now, thanks to Dan Klores and Fisher Stevens' immersive documentary "Crazy Love," we can all share the can't-believe-this, judgmental judg·men·tal
adj.
1. Of, relating to, or dependent on judgment: a judgmental error.

2. Inclined to make judgments, especially moral or personal ones:
thrill of following the tormented passion of ambulance-chasing attorney Burt Pugach Burt N. Pugach (born April 20, 1927) is a New York based lawyer who spent fourteen years in prison for hiring thugs to throw lye in Linda Riss's face.

At the age of 16, Burt graduated from Evander Childs High School.
 and lovely Linda Riss.

They met in the 1950s. He was rich, high-living and married. She was young, dazzled by his private plane and very own nightclub, and pretty disappointed when she found out he was married. She broke it off and got engaged to another guy. He hired some goons to throw lye in her face.

All sordid enough -- and, quite frankly, up to this point the New York Post The New York Post is the 13th-oldest newspaper published in the United States and the oldest to have been published continually as a daily.[3] Since 1976, it has been owned by Australian-born billionaire Rupert Murdoch's News Corporation and is one of the 10  can keep this terrible story in its own sleaze-eating circulation area, as far as I'm concerned.

But then things really got interesting. During his long incarceration Confinement in a jail or prison; imprisonment.

Police officers and other law enforcement officers are authorized by federal, state, and local lawmakers to arrest and confine persons suspected of crimes. The judicial system is authorized to confine persons convicted of crimes.
for the crime, Burt's love for Linda never waned. Meanwhile, the nearly blind woman, despite her best efforts to enjoy life to the fullest, couldn't consummate a romantic relationship.

When Burt got paroled in the 1970s, he essentially proposed to Linda on local TV. Her options at zero, she warily accepted.

Lawyers, huh?

The story got even weirder from there, and by the end of the movie the power valances in this tortured relationship take on a baroque, oddly satisfying rhythm.

Though woven in a standard documentary stitch of talking heads

, archive footage and commentary-laden pop songs, the film is irresistibly compelling. The Pugaches, their supporters (yes, even Burt has a few) and the commentators who try to figure them out are so nakedly upfront, it's as comical as it is horrifying.

At its heart -- and however laughable or loathsome much of it may be, this puppy's got miles and miles of palpitating pal·pi·tate

love muscle -- "Crazy" is as inexorably, imperfectly human as it is downright insane.

CRAZY LOVE - Three stars

(PG-13: violence, language)

Director: Dan Klores and Fisher Stevens Fisher Stevens, born Steven Fisher, (November 27, 1963) in Chicago, Illinois is an American actor, living in New York City. He is probably best known for his portrayals of Chuck Fishman on Early Edition, Eugene "The Plague" Belford in Hackers .

Playing: Laemmle Town Center 5, Encino; Playhouse 7, Pasadena; Landmark 12, West L.A.; Westpark 8, Irvine; South Coast Village 3, Santa Ana; Paseo Camarillo, Camarillo.

In a nutshell: Shocking! True! Story about an obsessive guy who blinded a woman, then married her when he got out of prison. Scariest part? It all kind of makes sense.
