IMServ North America Announces Contract With The Salt Lake City Department of Utilities for Installation Services.

RALEIGH, N.C.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 9, 2001

IMServ to install meters for the City's water replacement project

The Salt Lake City Department of Public Utilities, Salt Lake City, Utah has selected IMServ North America LLC to provide turnkey project management services that include the installation and replacement of 70,000 residential meters for the City's water meter replacement project.

The replacement project is expected to last 5 years.

As water meters age, consumption registration accuracy is lost due to normal wear within the meter. For this reason the Salt Lake City Department of Public Utilities has decided to begin replacing those aging meters. The new meters will help the City recapture lost revenues and help prepare for future upgrades to an AMR system throughout the City.

IMServ will also be part of a pilot program for the installation of the Invensys Metering System's RadioRead Automated Meter Reading (AMR) system for 6,000 meters. The Invensys Radio Read solution uses the latest technology in utility meter reading AMR devices. A wireless RF system, RadioRead enables the meters to be read remotely by transmitting data via spread spectrum radio frequency. The data may be collected by using a handheld device carried by the meter reader, or through the use of a portable mobile system installed in any vehicle with a 12-volt power supply, for faster, easier collection of meter readings.

"We are excited to have been chosen for Salt Lake City's water meter replacement program," says Mike Booth, president of IMServ LLC. "Salt Lake City will be joining a growing number of utilities that recognize the need to update their metering systems and improve their operational efficiency."

"The City has taken tremendous steps in modernizing and updating its public utility department," says Tom Ward, project manager, Salt Lake City Department of Public Utilities. "As water meters age the accuracy is lost. The City estimates $1 to $1.5M is being lost in annual water sales revenue due to the inaccuracy of old meters in the system. Our Meter Replacement Program should pay for itself in 5 to 10 years."
