IMPACT Software Announces Abstract Objects Class Libraries for Obsydian 2.0.Systems Inc., responding to the growing needs of developers using object-oriented tools to develop real life business applications, has announced a series of abstract object class libraries for Synon Corp.'s Obsydian 2.0 object-oriented application development environment. IMPACT's class libraries extend the functionality of the Obsydian base classes and provide additional abstract business objects to those in the Obsydian base class libraries. The most basic of the IMPACT class libraries is an abstract object called Extended Audited Entity that extends the inheritable in·her·it·a·ble adj. Capable of being inherited. in·her it·a·bil i·ty n. record stamp capabilities of Obsydian's Audited Entity to include the workstation ID and user ID of the user making changes to an application's data files. The library also provides full support for the retrieval of all record stamp fields from the server system, which can be an IBM (International Business Machines Corporation, Armonk, NY, www.ibm.com) The world's largest computer company. IBM's product lines include the S/390 mainframes (zSeries), AS/400 midrange business systems (iSeries), RS/6000 workstations and servers (pSeries), Intel-based servers (xSeries) AS/400, Novell or Windows NT (Windows New Technology) A 32-bit operating system from Microsoft for Intel x86 CPUs. NT is the core technology in Windows 2000 and Windows XP (see Windows). Available in separate client and server versions, it includes built-in networking and preemptive multitasking. server. The library will also provide the ability to automatically create and maintain maintenance log files that can act as extended database journals or provide for limit based record effectivity. The library will be available in January, 1996. Building on the Extended Audited Entity library is an abstract object called Extended User Maintained Entity that can automatically incorporate IMPACT's Extended Audited Entity functionality. This library also extends the capabilities of Obsydian's Business Entity by providing a Windows 95 look and feel to all generated client applications and a Common User Access (CUA (Common User Access) SAA specifications for user interfaces, which includes OS/2 PM and character-based formats of 3270 terminals. It is intended to provide a consistent look and feel across platforms and between applications. CUA - Common User Access ) compliant user interface to all character-based screens. This will be available in January, 1996. IMPACT's Application Security class library provides a generalized, granular framework for controlling access to an application's functions by user, user class, function and function class. This library includes not only the abstract objects necessary to build the security system, but also a set of real objects that can completely generate a usable application security system. This approach offers an off-the-shelf security solution that can be used to implement any application security configuration with the added benefit of easy customization. This is available in January, 1996. The User Extensible Entity class library of abstract objects allows the developer to declare any database file in an application as being user extensible. This allows the application's users or the application develop to add fields to an application's database file without the need to regenerate re·gen·er·ate v. re·gen·er·at·ed, re·gen·er·at·ing, re·gen·er·ates v.tr. 1. Features include automated absolute constraints, user defined Any format, layout, structure or language that is developed by the user. cardinality A quantity relationship between elements. For example, one-to-one, one-to-many and many-to-one express cardinality. See cardinal number. (mathematics) cardinality - The number of elements in a set. If two sets have the same number of elements (i.e. , range validation, default values, assumed defaults, and assorted user views of the user-defined data. This will be available in the 2nd quarter of 1996. The Rules Based Using "if-this, do that" rules to perform actions. Rules-based products implies flexibility in the software, enabling tasks and data to be easily changed by replacing one or more rules. Entity class library is a comprehensive set of real and abstract objects that provide rule based See rules based. testing and declaratives where maximum processing flexibility is required. This framework allows the developer to contract an application's processing steps as records in a network of database files. When used in conjunction with IMPACT's User Extensible Entity class library, application components which are subject to frequent changes can be defined within and executed directly from the database. Capabilities include testing, cardinality constraints, encapsulation (1) In object technology, the creation of self-contained modules that contain both the data and the processing. See object-oriented programming. (2) The transmission of one network protocol within another. , component call mechanisms for Windows and AS/400, and parameter passing support. Availability and pricing will be announced 1st quarter of 1996. IMPACT Software Systems is a leader in business application software development technology and provides application software products and services, including structured technology transfer programs.
