IMO INDUSTRIES - STEWART & STEVENSON ALLIANCE WINS MAJOR TURBO-COMPRESSOR SYSTEMS ORDERS

LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J., May 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Imo Industries Inc. (NYSE: IMD) announced that its Delaval Turbine Division and Stewart & Stevenson Services, Inc. of Houston, Texas, have received orders for turbomachinery equipment with a potential value to Imo of more than $30 million.
The orders are the first received as a result of the Imo-Stewart & Stevenson alliance that was formed last year to jointly produce and market turbine-compressor trains for use in oil and gas production, processing and pipeline applications worldwide. Imo's Delaval Turbine Division is a major producer of centrifugal compressors. Stewart & Stevenson is a leader in the design and fabrication of aero-derivative gas turbine-driven power systems.
Delaval Turbine has received an order, as prime contractor, for two turbo-compressor trains to be installed on an offshore platform and used for natural gas reinjection, a process that pressurizes the oil reservoir and thereby enhances oil recovery.
Each of the two equipment trains consists of two Delaval centrifugal compressors, driven by a General Electric Series LM2500 mechanical drive gas turbine developing 31,200 h.p. Stewart & Stevenson will supply the gas turbines and will provide full load, full speed and full pressure testing of the turbo-compressor packages, simulating conditions that will be encountered when the equipment is in use. The order will be shipped in July, 1995.
Stewart & Stevenson has received a letter of intent from Phillips Petroleum to begin engineering two turbo-machinery packages for use at the company's Goldsmith, Texas plant. Each of the two trains will consist of two Delaval vertically split compressors driven by a GE LM2500 gas turbine supplied by Stewart & Stevenson. Shipment is expected by mid-1995.
Stewart & Stevenson has also been selected by Alberta Natural Gas Company, Calgary, Alberta, to provide a gas turbine-driven pipeline compressor package, for use as part of a 1995 pipeline expansion project in British Columbia. The package consists of a 19,000 h.p. Stewart & Stevenson LM1600 mechanical drive gas turbine and a Delaval single- stage, axial inlet centrifugal compressor.
Imo, with 1993 sales of $642 million, supplies mechanical and electronic controls, engineered power products and their support services to industrial customers worldwide.
