ILOG's CPLEX 6.0 Delivers Significant Performance Improvements.

INCLINE VILLAGE, Nev.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 1, 1998--ILOG S.A. (NASDAQ/NMS:ILOGY) announced it is shipping a major new release of its CPLEX linear and mixed integer programming Integer programming

ILOG's CPLEX 6.0 optimizers deliver major improvements in linear programming performance. Technological breakthroughs in both simplex and barrier algorithms have resulted in significant performance gains for large linear programming problems. On ILOG's internal test suite of large problems, CPLEX 6.0 outperformed CPLEX 5.0 by an average of 4.5 times, 2.3 times, and 3.6 times, respectively, for simplex, barrier, and barrier crossover algorithms. Several extremely large problems were solved over 40 times faster with CPLEX 6.0.

For even higher performance, in release 6.0, CPLEX Parallel Solvers are available on an expanded list of SMP (Symmetric MultiProcessing) A multiprocessing architecture in which multiple CPUs, residing in one cabinet, share the same memory. SMP systems provide scalability. As business increases, additional CPUs can be added to absorb the increased transaction volume.  parallel architectures, including systems from DEC, Hewlett-Packard, Silicon Graphics and Sun Microsystems Sun Microsystems, Inc. Linear and even super-linear speed increases are possible with parallel implementations.

"CPLEX 6.0 is an extraordinary new release. CPLEX has always been known for performance. Now we have raised the performance bar an order of magnitude A change in quantity or volume as measured by the decimal point. For example, from tens to hundreds is one order of magnitude. Tens to thousands is two orders of magnitude; tens to millions is three orders of magnitude, etc. ," said Todd A. Lowe, Executive Vice President, ILOG CPLEX Division. "Now it is possible to address business optimization problems that were completely out of reach only a year ago. By expanding the list of supported parallel architectures, ILOG delivers performance leadership in linear and mixed integer programming to a broader business audience."

The new release is available now on most supported platforms. ILOG's CPLEX libraries are available for a variety of computer systems from Hewlett-Packard, Sun Microsystems, DEC, IBM (International Business Machines Corporation, Armonk, NY, www.ibm.com) The world's largest computer company. IBM's product lines include the S/390 mainframes (zSeries), AS/400 midrange business systems (iSeries), RS/6000 workstations and servers (pSeries), Intel-based servers (xSeries) , Silicon Graphics and other vendors; CPLEX 6.0 is also available for personal computers running Windows 95, Windows NT, Solaris and Linux.
