Ashley Postell has the stomach flu and will not compete. She was replaced by alternate Chellsie Memmel Chellsie Marie Memmel (born June 23, 1988 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin) is a U.S. gymnast. She started gymnastics as a young child because her parents were both gymnastics coaches and she grew up playing in the gym. She began competing as an elite in 2000.  on Friday.

``We've been waiting as long as we can and hoping that Ashley would bounce back, and that did not happen,'' national-team coordinator Martha Karolyi said.

``Fortunately, Chellsie has good innovative gymnastics with original skills. She has a good reputation. She's fresh from her competition at the Pan American Games Pan American (Sports) Games

Memmel won the all-around competition this month at the Pan Am Games in the Dominican Republic Dominican Republic (dəmĭn`ĭkən), republic (2005 est. pop. 8,950,000), 18,700 sq mi (48,442 sq km), West Indies, on the eastern two thirds of the island of Hispaniola. The capital and largest city is Santo Domingo. . Postell finished fourth in the all-around competition at the U.S. Nationals in June.

U.S. teammate Courtney Kupets Courtney Anne Kupets (born July 27, 1986 in Bedford, Texas[1]) is an American gymnast. She is best known for her 2003 and 2004 all-around national championships (with Carly Patterson as co-champion in 2004); her membership on the 2002 and 2003 World Artistic Gymnastics  also had the flu, but she returned to practice Thursday.

Karolyi said she hasn't set her lineup for the competition.

The American women compete for the first time Sunday at 9 p.m. at the Pond and are expected to do well and perhaps medal.

None of the team was made available for comment Friday.
