Five-year-old Will Hinton missed his dog Colt while he was being treated for cancer this year. When he got better, he missed Colt even more.

He won't have to miss his pal any more. The yellow Labrador retriever Labrador retriever, breed of large sporting dog whose origins are obscure but whose immediate ancestors were developed in Newfoundland and brought to England in the early 1800s. It stands about 23 in. (58.4 cm) high at the shoulder and weighs between 60 and 75 lb (27. , missing since Nov. 20, was headed home Friday after a stint at the pound and two weeks with an adoptive family, now broken-hearted themselves.

Culwell said he broke his own bad news to his daughters when they came home from school Friday, and they cried. The dog was a member of the family already, Culwell said.

``It's a lesson in life for my kids,'' he said. ``I teach Sunday school Sunday school, institution for instruction in religion and morals, usually conducted in churches as part of the church organization but sometimes maintained by other religious or philanthropic bodies.
