ILFC LEASES TEN JET AIRCRAFT TO SIX LATIN AMERICAN AIRLINES
CENTURY CITY, Calif., Jan. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- International Lease Finance Corporation (ILFC), a wholly-owned subsidiary of American International Group, Inc. (NYSE: AIG), today announced the lease placement of ten jet aircraft to six airlines based in Latin America. The ten aircraft are valued at $256 million, including spare parts. Three of the six airlines -- LAB (Bolivia), SAETA (Ecuador) and SAHSA (Honduras) -- are new ILFC lease customers.
"These leasing transactions confirm ILFC's commitment to serve airlines in South and Central America, an area which is experiencing significant air travel growth," said Lesli Gonda, ILFC chairman. "They underscore ILFC's market leadership, as the largest lessor of commercial jet aircraft in Latin America, both in terms of customers and number of aircraft leased."
The leases are contracted with the following airlines:
-- AVIATECA, the national airline of Guatemala, based in Guatemala City, leased a Boeing 737-200 Advanced jet from ILFC for three years with extension options. The aircraft seats 125 passengers and is powered by Pratt & Whitney JT8D-15 engines.
-- LAB - Lloyd Aero Boliviano, the Bolivian national carrier, leased an ILFC Airbus A-310-300 wide-body jet and a spare General Electric CF6-80C-2 engine to operate its main international route linking Bolivia with Miami.
-- LADECO, Santiago, Chile, leased another new Boeing 737-300 from ILFC for delivery in the fourth quarter of 1993 on a seven-year contract. This will be Ladeco's third B-737-300 leased from ILFC, and will operate international routes from Santiago, Chile, to major cities throughout South America. The aircraft will have CFM-56-3C engines and 136-passenger configuration.
-- SAETA, Guayaquil, Ecuador, leased a new ILFC Airbus A-310-300 for seven years, with delivery in April 1992. SAETA, which is a successful Ecuadorian scheduled airline, will operate the new ILFC A-310 wide-body jet on flights linking Ecuador non-stop to New York and Miami. This A-310 is equipped with General Electric CF-6-80C-2 engines.
-- SAHSA, Tegucigalpa, Honduras, the flag carrier of Honduras, leased four Boeing 737-200 Advanced jets from ILFC for three years with extension options. The SAHSA 737-200s operate primarily between cities in Honduras and Miami, Houston and New Orleans, and are equipped by Pratt & Whitney JT8D-15 engines.
-- TACA, El Salvador, leased two ILFC Boeing 737-300, 148-passenger jets, powered by CFM 56-3B-2 engines. TACA, which is Central America's largest airline, is utilizing the ILFC 737-300s to increase air service between Central America and its seven U.S. gateways.
ILFC is the international market leader in the leasing and remarketing of advanced technology commercial jet aircraft to airlines around the world. ILFC has a jet portfolio valued at more than $5 billion.
