 retailer IKEA IKEA Ingvar Kamprad Elmtaryd Agunnaryd (Swedish home furnishings retailer founder's initials and location)  will promote AMERICAN FORESTS' tree planting to customers to its 28 U.S. stores. The goal is to plant enough trees to annually offset the CO2 generated by travel to and from its U.S. stores by employees and customers.

IKEA, a five-year supporter of AMERICAN FORESTS American Forests is a nonprofit conservation organization that promotes healthy forests and urban tree planting.

The organization was established in 1875 as the American Forestry Association, by physician/horticulturist John Aston Warder and a group of like-minded citizens
, will match the first $100,000 raised. Customers will be given the option to add a dollar or more to their purchase price at checkout to support the campaign. Visitors to IKEA's website (www.IKEA.com) can learn about the initiative and link to american-forests.org to learn more and plant trees online. IKEA trees will be planted in Global ReLeaf ecosystem restoration Humans depend greatly on ecosystem services. These services vary greatly and include such things as erosion control, water and air purification, food, recreation, a list that could go on endlessly.  sites throughout the U.S. AMERICAN FORESTS also will work with IKEA stores to provide Living Classrooms of environmental education materials and Famous & Historic Trees to local schools.
