IKEA INCREASES DISTRIBUTION EFFICIENCY; LEASES SPACE TO LDI COMPUTER SUPERSTORE

PITTSBURGH, Nov. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- LDI Computer Superstore has leased warehouse space from IKEA in Robinson Township.
IKEA has recently restructured its distribution network and found itself with more than 45,000 feet of warehouse space that is no longer needed.
"Our distribution network has been restructured so that we are much more efficient than we were when we opened four years ago," commented Pernille Spiers-Lopez, store manager of IKEA Pittsburgh. "With new systems and a new distribution terminal, we no longer need to house as much merchandise in our store." This year, IKEA opened a 700,000- square-foot distribution terminal in Westhampton, N.J., which sends daily shipments to the Pittsburgh location.
The need for less storage in the Pittsburgh store inspired IKEA to pursue a tenant to take advantage of the new efficiencies. LDI is leasing 45,600 square feet, which will house the computer store.
Visitors to IKEA will not notice any visible changes to the retail floor of the store. The only part of the store which is affected is the warehouse.
LDI Computer Superstore will open next to the IKEA store located in Robinson Town Centre on Saturday, Nov. 13. IKEA is the world's largest home furnishings retailer with 12 stores in the United States. The Pittsburgh store opened in 1989.
