He has made significant contributions to the improvement of storage stability that are of particular relevance to the use of SBCs in road surface applications. He has more than 10 patents and co-patents and has published extensively on road surface applications with thermoplastic elastomers Thermoplastic elastomers (TPE), sometimes referred to as thermoplastic rubbers, are a class of copolymers or a physical mix of polymers (usually a plastic and a rubber) which consist of materials with both thermoplastic and elastomeric properties. .

Dr. Kleinheidt was honored for his many contributions to the synthetic rubber industry, most importantly Adv. 1. most importantly - above and beyond all other consideration; "above all, you must be independent"

After spending more than two decades in various capacities, including an assignment in Brazil, he was appointed to general manager of the rubber business group in 1989 and held that position until his retirement.

It was during this period that Kleinheidt served as IISRP IISRP International Institute of Synthetic Rubber Producers  director representative from Bayer AG.
