IFR Announces Kikusui's New PAM Series Variable-Switching DC Power Supplies; Eight Models Bring a New Level of Price/Performance to the Burn-In and Bulk Power Markets.Business Editors/Technology Writers WICHITA, Kan.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 25, 2002 IFR IFR abbr. instrument flight rules Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq:IFRS IFRS International Financial Reporting Standard(s) IFRS Inter Frame Relay Service IFRS Indiana Facilities Registry System ) today announced a complete new line of variable-switching regulated DC power supplies. The Kikusui PAM (1) (Pulse Amplitude Modulation) The conversion of audio wave samples to pulses (voltages). PAM is the first step in pulse code modulation (PCM), which is followed by converting the pulses to digital numbers. See PCM. Series has eight models in 2kW and 4kW versions that provide a new level of price-performance to the burn-in/life testing and bulk power markets. The PAM Series consists of large-capacity, variable-switching DC power supplies that combine Kikusui's long history of high-quality, reliable power products with good value for performance. The PAM Series offers users a wide range of large-capacity power devices to limit temperature rise, minimize temperature dependence and improve reliability. With convenient features such as external analog control functions, analog read-back functions, a three-point memory function that allows users to pre-store output settings (voltage and current), a unique lock-out feature for manufacturing use, master-slave parallel operation, and better voltage ranges for margin testing, the PAM Series offers features normally only available in higher-priced units. Handling margin testing with capacity to spare As batteries, DC-DC DC-DC Direct Current to Direct Current (power conversion) converters, automobile electrical components, and motor-operated tools have shifted to high voltage The term high voltage characterizes electrical circuits, in which the voltage used is the cause of particular safety concerns and insulation requirements. High voltage is used in electrical power distribution, in cathode ray tubes, to generate X-rays and particle beams, to or large capacity formats, the voltage ranges required for margin testing have changed. To meet these changing needs, the PAM Series provides a rated output voltage range of 40V, 80V, 160V and 320V. This allows the PAM Series to handle tests at 150 percent of 24V (36V) or at 150 percent of 48V (72V) with capacity to spare. PAM Series adds computer control using TP-BUS or GPIB (General Purpose Interface Bus) An IEEE 488 standard parallel interface used for attaching sensors and programmable instruments to a computer. Using a 24-pin connector, up to 15 devices can be daisy chained together. HP's version is the HPIB. The PAM Series power supplies offer a factory-option twisted-pair TP-BUS digital communication function. The power supplies can be configured con·fig·ure tr.v. con·fig·ured, con·fig·ur·ing, con·fig·ures To design, arrange, set up, or shape with a view to specific applications or uses: for a power supply system of up to 434 channels in combination with power supply controllers in the Kikusui PIA-4800 Series. The TP-BUS allows a single power supply controller (such as the Kikusui PIA-4830) to control up to 31 PAM Series power supplies. It also allows a control signal cable to be laid over a distance of 200 meters. For those who require GPIB, it can be installed as a factory option. Eight new models The PAM Series includes eight models in 2kW and 4kW models: -- PAM 2kW Models: -- PAM40-50 (0 to 40V/0 to 50A) -- PAM80-25 (0 to 80V/0 to 25A) -- PAM160-12 (0 to 160V/0 to 12A) -- PAM320-6 (0 to 320V/0 to 6A) -- PAM 4kW Models: -- PAM40-100 (0 to 40V/0 to 100A) -- PAM80-50 (0 to 80V/0 to 50A) -- PAM160-25 (0 to 160V/0 to 25A) -- PAM320-12 (0 to 320V/0 to 12A) Price and availability The Kikusui PAM Series 2kW models are priced from U.S. $4,284 to $5,141. The PAM Series 4kW models are priced from U.S. $7,236 to $7,616. All power supplies carry a five-year warranty and are available from IFR in two to six weeks upon receipt of order.
