IFAC encourages support for capital markets forum.

The International Federation of Accountants is gearing up for the first of its capital markets forum seminars and is encouraging individuals interested in international markets to participate. The first seminar will take place on March 22, 1996, in London, England.

The forum is organized to benefit individual accountants, investment bankers and other financial professionals interested in international trade. It also gives members access to a subscription service that includes the IFAC capital market forum's research and discussion papers as well as papers developed by the International Capital Markets Group (ICMG), the International Bar Association Section on Business Law and the International Federation of Stock Exchanges.

Juan Herrera, IFAC president and senior partner of KPMG Peat Marwick in the Dominican Republic, told the Journal that the forum was an offspring of the IFAC's relationship with the ICMG and a way to bring international capital markets issues closer to individual accountants. "IFAC's forum allows accountants and other professionals to have a direct link with the IFAC without having to go through their professional organizations," said Herrera. He said the first seminar would focus on current international issues such as corporate governance and disclosure requirements for cross border trading, investment risks and tax implications of various foreign investments. "The forum also will enable accountants to network with investment bankers, attorneys and stockbrokers involved in international issues," said Herrera.
