,'' part ``Gorgo'' but mostly a bigger, meaner remake of ``Jurassic Park,'' ``The Lost World'' comes close to being the ultimate monster mash. Looking better and written worse than Steven Spielberg's first dinosaur derby, ``Lost World'' is indisputably the last word in exquisitely faked mayhem.

The same teams responsible for ``Jurassic's'' ground-breaking rampage - Dennis Muren's Industrial Light and Magic computer animators, Stan Winston's robot creature crafters and Michael Lantieri's physical effects Physical effects is the term given to a sub-category of special effects in which mechanical or physical effects are recorded. Big, angry animals have never looked better or scarier, nor left such an imaginative trail of wreckage. Jeff Goldblum's back, wisecracking as ever but the hero this time. Julianne Moore and Pete Postlethwaite are also on the menu for this second go-round that serves up twice the action on a jungle island, then some citizens of San Diego for dessert. ``The Lost World'' offers big, bloody heaps more of what made the first ``Jurassic Park'' the biggest hit in movie history. All while managing to be about even less.
