IDT (Nasdaq:IDTI), a leading communications IC provider, today announced the RC32332, the newest member of the RISCore(TM) 32300 RISController(TM) product family.

The 133-MHz RC32332 integrated communications processor is designed to offer the ideal price performance for emerging embedded systems applications.

The RC32332 targets communication applications such as xDSL gateways, SOHO routers, managed LAN switches and other networking equipment that use the device's on-chip, industry-standard PCI bridge and memory controller. All of these applications demand the performance, aggressive price-point and feature set offered by the RC32332 integrated processor. Along with the RC32334, introduced in May 2000, the RC32332 offers communications and embedded systems designers a range of choices for integrated communications processors based on the PCI bus. Additionally, the RC32332 is packaged in a 208-pin quad flat package (QFP) enabling designers to reduce the layer count on printed circuit boards (PCB), reducing overall system and manufacturing costs.

RC32332 Drives Lower System Costs for Embedded Applications

The RC32332 includes a PCI bridge to provide easy system expansion and a direct connection to a broad range of networking, storage and graphics applications. The flexible memory controller allows designers to select the appropriate memory subsystem to meet the requirements of the end application. The high-performance CPU core eliminates the need to hand-tune software and allows designers to differentiate the end product through value added software functions. The RC32332 reuses IDT's existing 32-bit RC32300 CPU core, based on the MIPS(R) instruction set architecture (ISA). This provides designers with immediate access to a broad range of development tools, including the 79S332 evaluation board from IDT, real-time operating systems such as VxWorks from Wind River Systems and Linux, compilers/debuggers and in-circuit emulators (ICEs). Capable of operating up to 133MHz, the RC32332 includes a 66-MHz SDRAM bus interface, a version 2.1-compatible PCI bus controller incorporating PCI bus arbitration logic and operating up to 50MHz, and general-purpose modules such as a DMA controller, interrupt controller, timers and a serial port. The PCI bus interface also enables standard 33-MHz PCI bus as well as higher-speed proprietary PCI bus implementations for system flexibility.

Pricing and Availability

The 133-MHz RC32332 integrated processor is currently available in production quantities and is priced at $18, based on standard 10,000-unit quantities. The RC32332 is also available in a 100-MHz version that is priced at $16 for 10,000-unit quantities. This part is also available at industrial temperatures with prices starting at $21.50 for 133-MHz and $19 for 100-MHz speeds, at 10,000-unit quantities.
