IDT also announced its new software-based dual-port 512Kx36 SLAM that supports the Intel IXP2400, Intel(R) IXP2800 and Intel(R) IXP2850 network processors in the Intel(R) Internet Exchange Architecture Internet Exchange Architecture (acronym: IXA) is a chip set and framework produced by Intel Corporation used by manufacturers to design customised network processors. Introduced in 1999, the first model was based on the StrongARM processor.  Software Development Kit 3.0 Microengine Development Environment. The new cycle-accurate SLAM is bundled with the IDT simulation software solution that includes BusTracker(TM) and PowerTracker(TM), unique system analysis tools that help evaluate bus efficiency and power consumption, respectively. The IDT SLAM supports robust file-based and flexible third-party interfaces for database initialization and configuration. This simulation environment delivers a new and improved version of the company's user-friendly graphical user interface graphical user interface (GUI)

This software suite enables designers to begin software development early in the design process, and fully evaluate and test multiple packet-processing architectures in a pre-hardware simulation environment.

"For those customers using our IXP2400, IXP2800 or IXP2850 network processors for their complex communications applications, it is critical that easy-to-use development solutions are available to speed time to market, reduce costs and increase overall system performance," said Nick Finamore, general manager of the Intel Network Processor Division. "The combination of our development environments with the new NSE development board and the 512Kx36 dual-port SLAM from IDT helps improve evaluation and system performance and decrease time to market."

"We are pleased to provide such a robust and powerful search acceleration hardware and software solution for the Intel development platform," said Chris Schott, vice president of the IDT IP co-processor division. "A result of our continued commitment to developing and maintaining strong relationships with industry leaders, the addition of the NSE development board and dual-port SLAM to our IXP design accelerator kit provides the integrated system-level support necessary for our customers to succeed in the communications sector."

Pricing and Availability

The NSE development board with an integrated LA-1 interface is sampling now and is individually priced at $2,495. The software-based, 512Kx36 dual-port SLAM will be available at the end of Q1CY03.

IDT IP Co-Processor Solutions

IDT is the leading provider of network search engines and content inspection engines that accelerate packet processing and enable intelligent application management in next-generation networking equipment. IDT is recognized by RHK, Inc. and International Data Corporation (IDC) as the technology leader, and as the volume shipment leader of network search engines. Based on the integration of content addressable memory See CAM.

content addressable memory - (CAM, or "associative memory") A kind of storage device which includes comparison logic with each bit of storage. A data value is broadcast to all words of storage and compared with the values there.
(CAM) and high-performance logic, the IDT NSEs support NPUs and ASICs to accelerate packet classification and forwarding in core, metro and access networks. IDT offers the industry's highest-performance NSE operating up to 250 MHz and the first NSE with an integrated LA-1 interface, and was the first vendor to introduce search widths up to 576 bits. The IDT NSE portfolio includes custom versions for Cisco Systems, as well as devices with general-purpose and glue-less interfaces to network processors. The IDT 256Kx36 (128Kx72) network search engine received the EDN Top 100 Products Award of 2002.

The IDT content inspection engines are capable of parsing and classifying data up to Layer 7, a functionality that, when coupled with the NSEs, allows for inspection of content in both the packet header and payload, resulting in more intelligent packet processing at wire speed. IDT is an active NPF member and contributor to NPF and the LA interface definition and serves as chairman of the board. More information about the NPF can be found at www.npforum.org. IDT is a member of the Intel(R) Communications Alliance. For more information please visit http://intel.com/go/ica.
