IDPs to get assistance through Benazir Smart Card.
PESHAWAR, 22 May, 2009 (Frontier Star) -- Chairperson Benazir
Income Support Programme (BISP) Farzana Raja has announced that Rs.
25,000 to be distributed among 0.25 million IDPs of Malakand Division
through Benazir Smart Card. Inaugurating Benazir Smart Card at
Kachigarhi Camp Peshawar, Chairperson BISP said that the task of
registration of IDPs has been given to NADRA and counters and offices
have been setup at relief camps. Commending the role of NADRA, she said
that the task of registration has been given to NADRA aimed to ensure
transparency and to avoid any duplication. She underlined that the 539
families of Bajaur would get Rs. 1000 monthly, adding the amount for the
rehabilitation of affected people would be provided through Benazir
Smart Card. Responding to a question, Chairperson BISP said that there
are dire needs of fans, coolers and tents, adding steps are also being
taken to ensure electricity in camps. She said that the Benazir Smart
Card is also applicable for IDPs from Swat and FATA. Farzana Raja said
that the world community promised to help Pakistan but the government is
not waiting for their assistance and all steps are underway to ensure
all possible facilities to IDPs.
