The immediate impact of Idleman's decision is that it will stretch the filing period for the April 9 council race by five days. Candidates for the council will now have until Jan. 16 to file. The other incumbents, Mayor Frank Roberts and Vice Mayor Henry Hearns are running for re-election. Also in the race for Hearns and Idleman's council seats are Ed Sileo and Steve Malicott. Candidates for the mayoral post include Norm Hickling, Anthony Booth, William Booth, William, 1829–1912, English religious leader, founder and first general of the Salvation Army, b. Nottingham. Originally a local preacher for the Wesleyan Methodists, he went (1849) to London and entered (1852) the ministry of the Methodist New Connexion Fender and Gene Gaynor. The filing extension applies only to the two council seats and not to the mayoral race. Idleman, 34, was elected to the City Council in April 1998 along with Councilman Andy Visokey. Idleman's main campaign platform issues during her 1998 election run were crime and the number of apartment complex developments in the city. During her tenure on the council, the city had a number of major anti-crime operations, including the two Men in Black undercover operations that snared thieves and drug dealers. The city also imposed a two-year moratorium on apartment construction while an evaluation was conducted of how much land was zoned for such developments and the anticipated demand.
