IDI ANNOUNCES NEW DESKTOP DOCUMENT MANAGEMENT PRODUCT

SAN FRANCISCO, March 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Information Dimensions, Inc. (IDI), announced its new graphical document management product, DocWorks(TM), built on IDI's premier Document DBMS, BASISplus(R). DocWorks fulfills the business requirement for a document management system with client/server architecture which works in a mixed computing environment, provides a familiar interface for PC users and requires no application development.
DocWorks creates a database for workgroup documents. It integrates today's leading word processors and unites authoring, filing, updating, shared-user access and document retrieval into one simple interface. Workflow and document management capabilities include check-in/check- out, notification of documents waiting and document sign-off and version control. It also provides seamless access to both local and remote databases.
Bruce Duff, VP of marketing for IDI, commented, "DocWorks meets the challenge set by many organizations today who need a desktop independent document management solution. The requirement is for a product which can be applied at the personal, group, or enterprise level, will protect documents across mixed computing environments - and still be easy to install, easy to learn and easy to use. DocWorks answers that demand."
The DocWorks GUI differs from traditional document management systems because it can configure itself to the documents it manages. It allows the user to choose the number and type of fields associated with documents. DocWorks manages mixed object data and compound documents through the BASISplus engine. It also launches applications so users are able to view and edit images, graphics, spreadsheets, or CAD drawings.
The initial release, DocWorks 1.0, will support PCs running MS Windows for UNIX and VAX/VMS servers. DocWorks runs on TCP/IP and DECNET networks using popular communications packages such as Novell LAN WorkPlace, Sun PC-NFS, Hewlett-Packard ARPA Services, and Digital PATHWORKS. DocWorks will be available for first commercial shipment on May 1st. Pricing available upon request.
