IDG launches mag for China & Information service for online content pros.


International Data Group (Boston, MA) has begun the publication of Hi-Tech Entrepreneur, a monthly magazine designed to provide news, case studies and information on best business practices for executives and managers of fast-growing technology companies in China. The new title will have a paid circulation of 50,000.

 China managing director Hugo Shong said the magazine was created to "meet the demand for information about the best strategies for managing high-growth enterprises addressing the technology market." Editorial includes information on such topics as measuring markets, developing strategies for pricing, packaging and distribution, international partnerships and alliances, and financial considerations.

IDG started publishing in China in 1980 and, with the new title, now produces 26 publications there. IDG China produces business titles such as PC World, Network World, IT CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. In related news, IDC, IDG's research and advisory division, has launched Online Content Market: Technologies and Strategies, a new intelligence and information service for content service providers (CSPs), including both online content buyers and providers. Annual subscriptions and site licenses are available.

IDC said the new service will "analyze the market from several perspectives," including content types, technologies, services and providers." Topics to be covered include: buying intentions and brand awareness of online content buyers; trends in pricing and delivery methods; content management, access and delivery technologies; XNL XNL Extensible Name Language  content technologies; and, digital rights management. It will also examine strategies, market position and vendors and service providers. A series of workshops on XML XML
 in full Extensible Markup Language.

Markup language developed to be a simplified and more structural version of SGML. It incorporates features of HTML (e.g., hypertext linking), but is designed to overcome some of HTML's limitations.
, alliances, usability and related topics will also be offered.

Finally, IDG said it will invest $100 million between now and 2010 to expand its publications, conferences, market research and venture capital activities in Vietnam.

The company, which already produces four conferences in Vietnam, will launch two additional events by the end of January, including "Vietnam High-Tech Fair" and "IT in Education." Also, IDG is expanding its market research activity by establishing a subsidiary in Ho Chi Minh City Ho Chi Minh City, formerly Saigon, city (1997 pop. 5,250,000), on the right bank of the Saigon River, a tributary of the Dong Nai, Vietnam.  which will serve as the offices for IDG research division IDC. In addition, IDG is planning to establish a high-tech venture capital fund. Lastly, IDG, which currently publishes PC World and CIO for the Vietnam market, will launch three to five additional publications "in the near future" to cover such areas as computer networking
