IDENTIX WINS STATE OF WASHINGTON LIVE-SCAN CONTRACT

SUNNYVALE, Calif., April 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Identix Inc. (AMEX: IDX, common; NASDAQ: IDNXP, preferred; NASDAQ: IDNXW, warrants), an industry leader in electronic fingerprinting technology, today announced it received a contract from the state of Washington Association of Sheriffs and Police Chiefs (WASPC) for its TouchPrint(TM) fingerprint scanning system. The contract allows any law enforcement agency in the state of Washington to purchase Identix's TouchPrint system at the contract price. Initially, there are four TouchPrint systems to be installed in the Washington State counties of Benton, Chelan, Pierce and Snohomish. The company believes there will be a number of additional orders under the contract.
"This contract represents a key advance in our strategic marketing plan," said Randy Fowler, Identix president. "In addition to being the Live-Scan vendor for the State of California, we can now add the State of Washington to our growing list of customers. We are pleased to be working with such fine law enforcement agencies."
The TouchPrint system allows law enforcement authorities to electronically scan and print fingerprints at the point-of-booking. Simultaneously, the fingerprints can be transmitted over telephone lines to a centralized computer for identification matching in a fraction of the time it currently takes through manual processing.
According to Eugene A. Cotton, executive director of WASPC, "The selection (of the State of Washington live-scan vendor) was based on a rigid set of specific requirements and an exhaustive and thorough evaluation of each responding vendor's equipment operation and related fingerprint reproduction output. Identix was judged the best vendor for our needs based on the evaluation criteria."
Cotton commented that WASPC, through this and other transactions, hopes to aid "in ensuring the law enforcement agencies of Washington can continue to remain on the `cutting edge' of technology which will enhance the effectiveness of our services during these times of increased demand and shrinking financial resources."
Identix Inc., located in Sunnyvale, designs, manufactures and markets personal identity verification systems for security applications and products for law enforcement that optically scan and analyze fingerprint images. ANADAC, its wholly owned subsidiary, is based in the Washington D.C. area and provides information technology, engineering and management consulting services. The company's common stock is traded on the American Stock Exchange and the Pacific Stock Exchange under the symbol IDX. The company's convertible preferred stock and warrants to purchase common stock trade on NASDAQ under the symbols IDNXP and IDNXW, respectively.
