This year's conference, which is presented by the International Disk Drive, Equipment and Materials Association (IDEMA IDEMA International Disk Drive Equipment and Materials Association ), will address the business and technology aspects of the hard disk drive industry, including evaluating its past accomplishments and its future potential. The conference also aims to help developers maintain hard disk drive utilization as the dominant storage technology for many years to come. Several presentations and panel discussions will be hosted by leading industry executives who will represent their companies as well as the overall hard disk drive industry.

"As we celebrate 50 years of hard disk drive innovation, the industry has never been stronger or more vibrant," said Ed Grochowski, executive director for IDEMA. "New technologies such as perpendicular recording A method of digital recording on a magnetic disk in which the bits are in a vertical arrangement instead of horizontal in order to take up less space. Also called "vertical recording," perpendicular recording is expected to materialize with areal densities exceeding 200 gigabits per  are paving the way to handle the consumer's insatiable appetite for multimedia content which other competing technologies can't support.
