IDECM selected for U.S. Air Force B-1B upgrade.NASHUA, N.H.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 6, 1996-- Sanders, a Lockheed Martin Company, has been selected by Rockwell International Corp. to provide its Integrated Defensive Electronic Countermeasures (IDECM IDECM Integrated Defensive Electronic Countermeasures ) radio frequency (RF) subsystem for the U.S. Air Force B-1B Defensive System Upgrade Program (DSUP DSUP Defense System Upgrade Program DSUP Detective Superintendent ). The system will provide increased survivability sur·viv·a·ble adj. 1. Capable of surviving: survivable organisms in a hostile environment. 2. That can be survived: a survivable, but very serious, illness. for B-1B aircraft against advanced missile threats. Sanders will serve as subcontractor to Rockwell North American North American named after North America. North American blastomycosis see North American blastomycosis. North American cattle tick see boophilusannulatus. Aircraft Division, prime contractor and systems integrator to the U.S. Air Force. Under the subcontract, valued at $5.4 million, Sanders will provide a nine-month design study in preparation for the program engineering and manufacturing development (EMD EMD Electromechanical dissociation, see there ) phase. Eventual production for 95 aircraft is expected. The contract requires that Sanders develop the RF countermeasures suite which includes IDECM and the ALR-56M radar warning receiver “RWR” redirects here. For other uses, see RWR (disambiguation). Typically fitted to military aircraft, radar warning receivers (RWR) detect the radio emissions of radar systems, whether ground-based or on-board other aircraft. . The receiver is manufactured by Lockheed Martin Electronic Defense Systems, Yonkers, N.Y. This upgraded electronics suite is required to support the B-1B's new conventional munitions mu·ni·tion n. Sanders was selected in November of 1995 by the Department of Defense for the engineering and manufacturing development phase of the IDECM program. The joint Navy-Air Force contract included an architecture study to determine how IDECM would support the B-1B DSUP. IDECM is an integrated electronic warfare suite that will provide an onboard technique generator connected to a towed decoy DECOY. According to Howard Arndt, Sanders' director, B-1B Defensive System Upgrade Program, "This system has been designed to address the future threats that the B-1B will encounter in the next century. The architecture study has successfully demonstrated that IDECM can be deployed on the B-1B, validating that this is a `commodity' type system for multi-service use." An operating company of the Lockheed Martin Electronics Sector, Sanders is engaged in development, manufacture and sale of advanced electronic systems and products in a broad range of defense and commercial electronics markets. The company is a major producer of electronic combat and self protection systems, and is the industry leader in the development of automated mission planning systems. Other major business areas include tactical communications, surveillance and intelligence systems; avionics and space electronics; microwave electronics subsystems; and commercial telecommunications systems.
