IDB Communications joins AT&T in Soviet Union phone venture.

Los Angeles-based IDB Communications Group Inc. officials last week said the FCC (1) (Federal Communications Commission, Washington, DC, www.fcc.gov) The U.S. government agency that regulates interstate and international communications including wire, cable, radio, TV and satellite. The FCC was created under the U.S.  has granted temporary authority for it and AT&T to set up a special telephone system between the United States United States, officially United States of America, republic (2005 est. pop. 295,734,000), 3,539,227 sq mi (9,166,598 sq km), North America. The United States is the world's third largest country in population and the fourth largest country in area.  and the U.S.S.R.

IDB stock rose $2 a share to $11.75 on the news.

The permit allows for the activation of 24 circuits each on the Soviet satellite system Intersputnik to provide public-switched telephone services. The satellite-served communications company Communications Company is a communications unit of the United States Marine Corps. They are part of Combat Logistics Regiment 37 , 3rd Marine Logistics Group (3MLG) and III Marine Expeditionary Force (III MEF). The unit is based out of the Marine Corps Base Camp Smedley D.  will carry roughly one out of every five calls to the Soviet Union, said IDB President Edward R. Cheramy.

He estimated the deal would generate $6 million to $8 million in additional revenue for IDB, which did $86 million revenues last year.
