IDAHO FIREFIGHTERS WILL AGAIN PICKET EG&G AT ROCKY FLATS

DENVER, Sept. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Tuesday morning, Sept. 7, striking firefighters of the Oil, Chemical and Atomic Workers (OCAW) International Union at Idaho Falls, Idaho, will again stage a picketline demonstration at Rocky Flats as they did yesterday, announced a union spokesperson today. Again, the purpose is to protest EG&G Corp. actions in sending replacement firefighters from its Rocky Flats facility to its Idaho National Engineering Laboratory (INEL) site at Idaho Falls. The INEL firefighters have been on strike against EG&G since Aug. 25.
"We decided we can't go back to Idaho without doing everything we can to let people here know that EG&G is using their tax dollars to destroy our union," said Firefighter Ron Hanson. "They're using the people's money to send Rocky Flats employees up there to take our jobs.
"Not only that," he said, "but they're weakening the firefighting force here at the Flats by 25 percent so they can replace us. If people at Rocky Flats and the Denver area knew, I don't think they'd feel to good about it. If it were me, I'd want to know why this company is playing so loose with the safety of my community."
The picketline will go up at 6:30 a.m. on Tuesday at the Rocky Flats East Gate, approximately at 105th Ave. and Indiana. The demonstration will last about two hours.
