ICS Announces And Ships Database Xcessory 1.5.

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 2, 1997--

The Premier Client/Server Development Tool for Unix Developers

Now Supports Informix

Integrated Computer Solutions Integrated Computer Solutions, Inc. (ICS) is a computer software company headquartered in Bedford, MA. They provide Graphic User Interface (GUI) development tools and professional services for UNIX and Linux platforms.  (ICS (1) (Internet Connection Sharing) A Windows feature that enables two or more computers to share one Internet connection. First introduced in Windows 98 Second Edition, sharing is accomplished with network address translation (NAT), which is the common method. ), the leading supplier of visual development tools for professionals, today announced Database Xcessory (DX) 1.5, an advanced tool that speeds the development of Unix client/server applications with graphical user interfaces. In addition to already supporting Oracle and Sybase, Database Xcessory 1.5 adds support for Informix.

"Developers targeting Microsoft Windows See Windows.

(operating system) Microsoft Windows - Microsoft's proprietary window system and user interface software released in 1985 to run on top of MS-DOS. Widely criticised for being too slow (hence "Windoze", "Microsloth Windows") on the machines available then.
clients have a wide variety of choices of client/server tools. However, developers of business critical applications that must support Unix-based clients find that they have only the most primitive tools to work with," said Tan Nguyen, ICS Product Manager. "Database Xcessory delivers the productivity tools developers need to support Unix clients too."

Nguyen continued, "Elements that make Database Xcessory the most robust and productive database application designing tool are instant feedback and the full control over database transactions. Developers can view a database structure and content with DX's integrated Schema Browser, switch between Build and Play modes for instant design verifications and, at the same time, maintain complete rolled-back capability. Support for object-oriented classes, common styles, and CASE tool integration greatly simplifies large database development projects."

Bob Smith, Systems Analyst of Mnemonic Pronounced "ni-mon-ic." A memory aid. In programming, it is a name assigned to a machine function. For example, COM1 is the mnemonic assigned to serial port #1 on a PC. Programming languages are almost entirely mnemonics.  Systems, Inc., of Washington, D.C., said, "We are using Database Xcessory to redesign a ballistics ballistics (bəlĭs`tĭks), science of projectiles. Interior ballistics deals with the propulsion and the motion of a projectile within a gun or firing device.  forensic decision support system for the Federal Bureau of Investigation Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), division of the U.S. Dept. of Justice charged with investigating all violations of federal laws except those assigned to some other federal agency. . We selected Database Xcessory because of its native use of the X Window System and Motif, its intuitive and thorough GUI (Graphical User Interface) A graphics-based user interface that incorporates movable windows, icons and a mouse. The ability to resize application windows and change style and size of fonts are the significant advantages of a GUI vs. a character-based interface.  for building applications, the ease of creating C++ classes, the speed of application development, and the cost -- no run time royalties!"

Smith continued, "I am also very pleased with ICS's technical support. I estimate that Database Xcessory will save us 60 to 70 percent of the time it takes to prototype, test and code our applications, giving us more time to design a superior product. That helps us help the FBI catch the bad guys."

Another ICS customer, Adrian Holland, Analyst Programmer for Data Sciences BV, Amsterdam, the Netherlands, also has had success using DX. He said, "I used DX to create a flexible graphical interface See GUI.  to display current and historical meteorological data Meteorological facts pertaining to the atmosphere, such as wind, temperature, air density, and other phenomena that affect military operations.  stored in an Oracle database. DX allowed me to create a fast, responsive display as a prototype within a few days. I found that the speed of database access with DX was two to five times faster than that of Oracle Forms."

Continued Holland, "The ICS technical support I received was superb. Their help solved numerous problems and reduced the learning curve, which was brief anyway, since DX is based on the widely-used BXTM, which I was using before. The response time for queries was fantastic and patches were put on ICS's FTP server (networking) FTP server - A network server program or computer which responds to requests for files via FTP.

A busy Internet archive site may have one or more computers dedicated to running FTP server software. These will typically have hostnames beginning with "ftp.", e.g.
as soon as they were ready. Finally, royalty-free libraries help with the economics of distributing the final application."

Database Xcessory 1.5 includes BX PRO 2.1, a suite of GUI development tools, including the industry's most advanced GUI builder Visual programming software that lets a user build a graphical user interface by dragging and dropping elements from a toolbar onto the screen. It may be a stand-alone program or part of an application development system or client/server development system. , Builder Xcessory(TM) 4.0; ViewKit/C++ and Java(TM); EnhancementPak, a library of 27 reusable advanced Motif components; and ViewKit ObjectPak, a mature C++ reuse framework. Database Xcessory 1.5 began shipping on June 30, 1997. For more information about DX, including pricing, visit: http://www.ics.com/Press Releases/DX15.html .
