ICQ, (www.icq.com) the world's largest online communications community, today announced the Company will soon launch the ICQ Mail (tm) service, a customized, free, Web-based email service for the ICQ (tm) service, developed in collaboration with Critical Path, Inc. (Nasdaq: CPTH), a leading provider of business-to-business Internet messaging solutions. The ICQ Mail service will be feature-rich and seamlessly integrated into the ICQ client to complement the ICQ service's instant messaging Exchanging text messages in real time between two or more people logged into a particular instant messaging (IM) service. Instant messaging is more interactive than e-mail because messages are sent immediately, whereas e-mail messages can be queued up in a mail server for seconds or , chat, desktop Web search and community capabilities, now used by over 38 million ICQ registered users worldwide.

To date, more than one million ICQ users have asked to be notified when the ICQ Mail service launches, and more than 400,000 have pre-selected the ICQ Mail service for immediate use and will have their ICQ mailbox A simulated mailbox in the computer that holds e-mail messages. Mailboxes are stored on disk as a file of messages, a database of messages or as an individual file for each message. The standard mailboxes are usually In, Out, Trash and Junk (Spam).  boxes activated at launch. Starting shortly, all of the ICQ service's more than 38 million registered users will be able to activate their free email accounts and the ICQ service's growing roster of new users can quickly and easily sign up at www.icq.com.

The ICQ Mail service is based on Critical Path's technology and is optimized for the ICQ platform. The service's first phase will introduce exciting new features including a desktop mail notification system A modern notification system is a combination of software and hardware that provides a means of delivering a message to a set of recipients. For example, notification systems can send an e-mail when a new topic has been added to Wikipedia.  and one-click access to email. The ICQ service's desk-top notification feature will inform ICQ users when an email arrives in their Web-based mailbox alleviating the need to "check your e-mail box." From there, the ICQ user can bring up the email message with one mouse click.
