ICEM Technologies Introduces New Styling and Surfacing Tools for Product Design.

New Versions of ICEM Surf, CDRS and 3DPAINT Provide Designers

With Advanced Tools to Create Innovative Designs

ICEM Technologies, a subsidiary of Parametric Technology Corporation (NASDAQ:PMTC), today announced the next generation of its styling and surfacing series of tools, ICEM Surf 2000i, CDRS 2000i and 3DPAINT 2000i. These industry-leading styling and surfacing tools help designers create more innovative and creative product designs while reducing the time and costs associated with the traditional product development process. Customers can quickly explore concepts and alternatives, refine surfaces and deliver fully rendered images of manufacturable products.

The 2000i versions of the styling and surfacing tools include significant performance improvements along with new features and enhancements to provide expanded flexibility and increased productivity for today's designers, stylists and engineers. In addition, the tools are interoperable and associative with all members of the PTC i-Series mechanical design automation suite of products, allowing conceptual design to exist in a truly concurrent product development environment.

ICEM Surf 2000i

ICEM Surf 2000i continues to provide industry-leading scanning capabilities with the introduction of ICEM Surf Clay, an enhanced global modeler for scan data. ICEM Surf Clay takes advantage of ICEM Surf's unique Global Modeling feature and enhances this capability for scans. ICEM Surf Clay, which is ideally suited for use in feasibility studies, provides new reference handles and automatic local refinement during modeling. High quality is guaranteed with ICEM Surf's reliable associative diagnostics. Data representation can then be transferred directly into simulation programs for further analysis downstream.

ICEM Surf 2000i also provides improved graphic performance (faster display of point clouds and improved "Level of Detail" display) as well as numerous scan enhancements that will make it possible to work on even larger point clouds. New functionality includes Global Blend and Align Surface functionality. The Global Blend function allows users to input surface clusters in addition to single patches. Patches can be matched or aligned with any reference objects so that all four edges of the patch can be modified simultaneously. New functionality within ICEM Surf 2000i also includes Global Patch Trimming, which allows the user to select a complete set of patch clusters (which may also consist of faces) and trim them to any limitation (curve or iso-line) in one step, rather than trimming each one individually. The user has individual control of deviation from a given trim curve to the original surfaces.

With ICEM Surf 2000i, NURBS curves, edges, and edges of trimmed surfaces can be used as spine and profile curves with dynamic preview of results. The new Profile function can be used as a construction tool providing a guarantee of constant cross sections along the spine curve. Profile adjustments include snap to curve and snap to surface.

CDRS 2000i

As the leading conceptual design tool, CDRS 2000i offers flexible interoperability, providing enhanced integration of CDRS and Pro/ENGINEER. This tight integration provides the ability to transfer curves between the applications, while maintaining their specifications. A new CDRSIn editor helps the user organize the model based on how the user wants to send geometry to Pro/ENGINEER. Multiple direct transfers to Pro/ENGINEER are also supported, allowing the user to transfer curves as well as surfaces.

Leveraging the new ICEM Surfacing Center of Excellence, CDRS 2000i introduces a new conceptual design tool called Warp that allows the designer to manipulate a model early in the design phase by twisting, bending, stretching and tapering. It is designed to be used for conceptual models and can transform curves, surfaces, scaffolds and foreign surfaces.

CDRS 2000i provides rendering improvements, including the ability to render in the foreground, saving significant memory. Additional rendering improvements include setting the preferred image format, default lights fixed to a view and render preferences that are now available from the Window menu. CDRS 2000i also offers an enhanced context-sensitive help feature, allowing the user to request specific help topics for each menu item and geometry tool.

3DPAINT 2000i

3DPAINT 2000i introduces True Type fonts, specified by curves rather than pixel bitmaps. True Type fonts allow the user to fill, outline and infinitely scale fonts with no quality degradation. In addition, the photorendering capability included in CDRS is now available in 3DPAINT 2000i. With photorealistic rendering features included in 3DPAINT, users eliminate the need for transfer of data back and forth between CDRS and 3DPAINT, shortening the overall design process.

3DPAINT 2000i also introduces multiple 3D layers. For the first time, the user can paint both in the perspective view and on multiple 3D layers, giving the user more flexibility and options.

Pricing and Availability

ICEM Surf 2000i starts at U.S. $27,500 and CDRS 2000i is priced at U.S. $19,000. Each is available for Windows NT, as well as SGI, HP, SUN and IBM UNIX systems. 3DPAINT 2000i is priced at U.S. $4,995 and is available for Windows NT workstations equipped with an Intergraph Z1 graphics card and for all SGI platforms as well. English language versions of ICEM Surf 2000i, CDRS 2000i and 3DPAINT 2000i are available immediately.
