ICE STATION PALMDALE SKATE RINK OPEN FOR THE SEASON THE FREEZE IS ON AT MARIE KERR PARK.Byline: Daily News PALMDALE - Southern California Southern California, also colloquially known as SoCal, is the southern portion of the U.S. state of California. Centered on the cities of Los Angeles and San Diego, Southern California is home to nearly 24 million people and is the nation's second most populated region, natives and cold-clime emigrants alike can glide across an ice rink set up under the stars at Marie Kerr Park. The second annual Winter Wonderland features a rink that is about 70 percent larger than last year's to accommodate more skaters. ``The one concern/complaint we had last year was we didn't have enough room for people who wanted to skate,'' said Kevin Younkin of Clear Channel Radio, the sponsor along with Re/Max All-Pro. Winter Wonderland's 50-foot-by-80-foot ice rink, which opened Friday, will be open daily through Dec. 21 at the park, on Rancho Vista Boulevard at 30th Street West. The cost will be $8 for a one-hour session, including skates. Sessions start at 2:30 p.m. weekdays; the last session is 8:30-9:30 p.m. On weekends, the rink will open at noon, with the last session 9-10 p.m. Each session is a half-hour apart, to give time for the Zamboni to smooth the ice. Tickets for each day's sessions will go on sale one hour prior to the first session. Individual tickets will not be sold before the day they are to be used, but group tickets can be purchased in advance and private parties scheduled by calling Kyra Kinsey at (866) 476-2532 (ITS-CLEAR).
