200E, 2 mega pixel, CMOS image sensor A CMOS-based chip that records the intensities of light as variable charges similar to a CCD chip. Although initially used in less expensive digital cameras, the quality of CMOS sensors has improved steadily.

CMOS sensors have advantages over CCDs.
 based on the proprietary EmeraldPixel(TM) technology, wide acceptance angle, 3.45um pixel design. The company is ramping the ICM200E into production and the part is scheduled for volume availability in November. The proven EmeraldPixel technology vastly improves image quality under low light conditions, while the pixel architecture allows module makers to shrink the camera module's overall form factor.

The ICM200E is IC Media's second EmeraldPixel technology part to provide an industry leading 25 degree or greater acceptance angle to incoming light. The wider acceptance angle and small pixel geometry allow module makers to design compact 2 mega pixel modules to fit in a sub 7.5mm module height, making it suitable for camera phones and other mobile devices. The ICM200E sensor array can be reset in less than 1/1000th of a second. This fast global reset feature enables the use of cost effective mechanical shutter solutions for high-end camera modules.

The ICM200E is a 1/2.6" optical format device that outputs industry-standard 10-bit RGB (Red Green Blue) The computer's native color space, which is the color system for capturing and displaying images. RGB was derived from our own perception of color because human eyes are sensitive to red, green and blue (see trichromaticity).  raw Bayer pattern as well as vertical and horizontal synchronization signals, compatible with leading third-party external image signal processing chips. Compatibility with multiple external image processors enables designers to optimally trade off system cost, performance and features for their camera subsystem solutions.

The ICM200E is a single chip digital color imaging device incorporating a 1600H X 1200V sensor array operating at up to 20 frames per second (fps) at full UXGA (Ultra XGA) A screen resolution of 1600x1200 pixels. See PC display modes.
