, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 12, 1997--IBM today announced a record-breaking 8.4-gigabyte hard disk drive for high-performance desktop personal computers.

Called Deskstar 8, it holds four times as much information as the average desktop drive.

To be considered a part of the romance genre, a novel should place its primary focus on the relationship and romantic love between two people, and must have an "emotionally , Deskstar 8 can hold enough information which when printed would make a stack of double-spaced typewritten type·write

No bigger than the head of a pin, the MRX head technology component sends out stronger signals than the older head, meaning it can read and write larger volumes of information in a smaller space.

Kevin Reinis, director of desktop and entry server storage products at IBM's Storage Systems Division, explaining that Deskstar 8 is for the "performance" user.

Performance PC users need high capacity, fast storage solutions like Deskstar 8, for their video, data and graphic-intensive applications. One minute of video on the PC, for example, can take up to 200 megabytes.

Deskstar 8, expected to ship in July, features Ultra Direct Memory Access/33 (DMA/33) technology which contributes to increased performance of the drive.
