IBM TO REMARKET LEE DATA TERMINALS FOR HOSPITAL APPLICATIONS
MINNEAPOLIS, July 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Lee Data, a Division of IIS Inc., a subsidiary of I.I.S. Intelligent Information Systems, Ltd. (NASDAQ: IISLF), announced an arrangement with IBM and Gates/FA Distributing (NASDAQ: GAFA) under which IBM will remarket Lee Data's Displaywindow with light pen-technology to IBM's customers.
John Jordan, program manager, Large Hospital Segment for IBM Health Industry Marketing, said, "This new marketing relationship with Lee Data and Gates/FA Distributing lets us offer our hospital customers a high-quality, color workstation with light-pen technology and advanced functions for applications using IBM 3270-terminals architecture."
Chuck Winslow, Lee Data's director of reseller operations, says that "light pens have long been the choice of health-care professionals. Lee Data's terminal and light pen provides hospital personnel with a proven data-entry tool that captures patient information with speed and accuracy.
"The Lee Data Displaywindow with light-pen option is an alternative to touch-screen technology and provides single-character resolution, making the system easier to use and more accurate than finger-tip selection," explains Winslow. "You simply point at data on the screen with the Lee Data light pen. The information is then sent to the host computer without ever touching the keyboard."
The Lee Data Model IS-372C Displaywindow and light pen will be distributed to IBM by Gates/FA Distributing, Inc. of Greenville, S.C. Gates/FA is responsible for inventory and drop shipment of the Lee Data workstations to IBM customers.
According to Jerry Lumpkin, vice president of marketing for Gates/FA Distributing, "IBM's choice of Lee Data's Displaywindow products is a testament to their quality and viability. We are thrilled to be chosen as the conduit between Lee Data and IBM for these products.
"Certainly this agreement adds a new dimension to our increasingly strong relationship with IBM," Lumpkin added.
The Lee Data IS-372C Displaywindow with light pen is part of a complete line of Lee Data IBM-compatible displays. The IS-372C attaches directly to Lee Data Network Controllers, IBM 3174/3274 Control Units and compatibles, and IBM 43XX processors.
According to Lee Data's Director of Marketing, LeAnn Castillo, the Model IS-372C Displaywindow with light pen is a "powerful display that offers superior ergonomics with a small footprint and low-profile keyboard, enhanced data collection (with light pen, bar-code, and magnetic-stripe options), online ALICE desktop accessories, host- addressable and local-screen printing, and extended Vital Product Data support for efficient network management."
Gates/FA Distributing, Inc., is a leading national microcomputer distributor specializing in the sale and support of industry-leading microcomputer systems, networking, mass storage, and peripheral products.
Lee Data is headquartered in suburban Minneapolis with sales and service offices throughout the United States. I.I.S. designs, develops, manufactures, markets, and services communication, networking, and peripheral products accessing a variety of hosts, local area networks, and wide area networks within the large and midrange IBM and DEC environments.
