 IBM SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT C. MICHAEL ARMSTRONG TO RETIRE
 ARMONK, N.Y., Feb. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- IBM (NYSE: IBM) Senior Vice President C. Michael Armstrong will retire from IBM on March 1. Armstrong will become chairman and chief executive officer of the Hughes Aircraft Company. Hughes is a subsidiary of the General Motors Corporation and is located in Los Angeles.
 The IBM World Trade business units that formerly reported to Armstrong, including the IBM Europe/Middle East/Africa Corporation, IBM Asia Pacific, IBM Latin America and IBM Canada, along with the corporate marketing staff, will report to IBM Chairman John F. Akers.
 Armstrong joined IBM in 1961 as a systems engineer in Indianapolis. He subsequently held numerous marketing, manufacturing and development positions. He was elected an IBM vice president in 1980, and in 1983 was elected an IBM senior vice president. In 1986, Armstrong was named directeur general, IBM Europe, and in 1989 was elected chairman of the board of the IBM World Trade Corporation. He also is a member of the IBM management committee and corporate management board.
