 IBM OFFERS SERVICES OF THE MANUFACTURING
 TECHNOLOGY CENTER TO THE COMMERCIAL MARKET
 WHITE PLAINS, N.Y., Nov. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- IBM today announced that it will provide advanced, custom equipment and software to manufacturers in the commercial market.
 This marks the first time manufacturers are able to purchase high- performance equipment developed by IBM through its Manufacturing Technology Center in Boca Raton, Fla. Whether buying directly from IBM for their own manufacturing needs or for involvement in the Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM) market, customers can take advantage of IBM's state-of-the-art technology products.
 The Manufacturing Technology Center's staff will offer consulting services for custom designs to meet customers' manufacturing objectives. The staff also plans on providing training and educational support to maintain a high level of equipment reliability.

Kfoury, IBM vice president and president, Industrial Sector Division. "IBM recognizes the tremendous need for reliable equipment in areas such as critical dimension measurement. As a result, we are offering leading- edge, customized manufacturing solutions to maximize customer quality and reliability."
 Customers will benefit from the Manufacturing Technology Center's research and development facilities for product design. The center's Special Equipment Design and Build (SEDAB) unit uses the most advanced processes for technology development such as computer-aided design and maintains clean room facilities with a Class 100 ranking for environmentally sensitive developments.
 The Manufacturing Technology Center also has a unit called the Machine Vision Technology Center where applications for manufacturers in the electronics, semiconductor and assembly industries are developed. The Machine Vision Technology Center uses microscopic cameras that optically locate positioning points for chips and measure solder bumps for size and quality during manufacturing.
 IBM's Manufacturing Technology Center is part of the Industrial Sector Division of the Application Solutions (AS) business unit. Other AS businesses include the General Sector Division, Service Sector Division, IBM Consulting Group and a multimedia organization. AS manufactures and develops application software and industry-oriented hardware. AS also provides technology-related services and consulting to a broad range of industries worldwide.
