IBM Licenses Voxware's MetaSound Technology for Use in Multimedia Products.

IBM licenses MetaSound, Voxware's low-bandwidth audio

compression technology, to add high quality audio to

multimedia products

Voxware, Inc. today announced that IBM has licensed Voxware's MetaSoundTM audio compression technologies (codecs). Voxware, Inc. (Nasdaq: VOXW) is a developer of speech and audio compression technologies for IP communications and multimedia solutions.

Voxware's MetaSound technology, built on core technology from Nippon Telegraph and Telephone, is designed to deliver high quality audio over bandwidth-constrained environments. Codecs in the MetaSound family are available in a range of bandwidths to enable customized audio streaming. MetaSound is used by developers of Internet or intranet applications, multimedia products, gaming, and interactive education applications.

"IBM is looking forward to incorporating Voxware's solution into our Internet technology portfolio," stated John Patrick, vice president, Internet technology at IBM. "We are helping our customers build e-business solutions which enable them to reach more constituencies by combining this new audio technology with our VideoCharger. In doing this, IBM can facilitate more natural human interaction on the Web."

IBM's VideoCharger Server for AIX is a software product providing real-time delivery of video and audio content to Internet and/or intranet clients. VideoCharger is a highly scalable system capable of delivering low bit-rate, mid-band, and high bit-rate (MPEG) audio/video streaming.

"We are delighted that IBM has chosen our MetaSound technology to use in their future multimedia products," said Michael Goldstein, president and chief executive officer of Voxware. "This licensing arrangement represents another endorsement by a leading technology provider. By licensing MetaSound IBM joins other industry leaders, such as Microsoft, who plan to use Voxware technology to help them meet customer expectations for the highest sound quality in their software solutions."
