 IBM LAUNCHES PREMIER BUSINESS PARTNER PROGRAM
 WHITE PLAINS, N.Y., July 21 /PRNewswire/ -- IBM (NYSE: IBM) today


announced the Premier Business Partner Program to recognize top performing midrange Business Partners who achieve high marks in quality, customer satisfaction and business volumes.
 Premier Business Partners will be eligible for special offerings such as individualized employee benefits programs and corporate travel packages provided by independent companies. The offerings can help partners reduce their necessary business expenses and deliver benefits that attract and retain good employees.
 The program also will honor high achievers with a special emblem for use on promotional materials, business cards, stationery and other items.
 "Our objective is to recognize firms that produce positive results for our mutual customers," said Wirt Cook, general manager, general business distribution, IBM U.S. "The program is designed to encourage partners to apply an aggressive and balanced focus on our common objectives of customer satisfaction, quality and business volumes."
 The program is expected to strengthen relationships with both customers and partners, thus improving IBM's ability to reach an increased number of midrange systems customers. It also reflects IBM's on-going commitment to customer satisfaction and total quality management.
 Measurements of customer satisfaction will include factors such as knowledge of customer application requirements and the ability to combine products and services into solutions that meet customer needs.
 Quality measurements will be based on IBM's Mark of Quality Award Program for Business Partners. Business volumes measurements will focus on revenue and new account achievement.
 The program is open now to all IBM midrange Authorized Agents, Application Specialists, Industry Application Specialists and Industry Remarketers. It is designed to recognize the top 10 percent of the partners, however there is no limit on the number that may earn premier status.
 There are more than 5,000 IBM Business Partners nationwide. They are independent firms that work with IBM to provide a broad range of hardware and software systems, marketing, installation and support to meet customer needs.
