), a provider of Enterprise Intelligence solutions for business users and AS/400 IT professionals, will significantly extend its offerings to thousands of AS/400 organizations with the launch of the new IBM (International Business Machines Corporation, Armonk, NY, www.ibm.com) The world's largest computer company. IBM's product lines include the S/390 mainframes (zSeries), AS/400 midrange business systems (iSeries), RS/6000 workstations and servers (pSeries), Intel-based servers (xSeries)  DB2 OLAP (OnLine Analytical Processing) Decision support software that allows the user to quickly analyze information that has been summarized into multidimensional views and hierarchies. OLAP tools are used to perform trend analysis on sales and financial information.  (On-Line Analytical Processing (database) On-Line Analytical Processing - (OLAP) A category of database software which provides an interface such that users can transform or limit raw data according to user-defined or pre-defined functions, and quickly and interactively examine the results in various dimensions ) Server for the AS/400 - a joint development effort between IBM and ShowCase.

IBM will bring DB2 OLAP to the AS/400 market as the ideal foundation for high-performance business intelligence (BI) analytics. The new server technology provides AS/400 users with a more robust relational storage manager option that optimizes the analytical power of ShowCase's Essbase/400 and stores data in a familiar format to help users quickly access, explore and deliver detailed enterprise information "their way" while maximizing the open scalable platform of the AS/400. ShowCase STRATEGY, coupled with IBM DB2 OLAP Server, provides industry-leading performance for interactive data analysis and report generation, resulting in benefits that can include increased market share and operational efficiency.

ShowCase is responsible for jointly developing IBM DB2 OLAP per an OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) The rebranding of equipment and selling it. The term initially referred to the company that made the products (the "original" manufacturer), but eventually became widely used to refer to the organization that buys the products and  contract with IBM announced June 12. As the provider of IBM's selected OLAP technology for the AS/400, ShowCase gains access to thousands of IBM customers through IBM's vast direct sales force and global network of business partners, as well as the increased sales and marketing support that IBM places behind its own products. The deal also gives IBM access to ShowCase's Essbase for the AS/400 - the core technology embedded in DB2 OLAP and within IBM-developed BI solutions to be sold into the AS/400 customer base.

Additionally, IBM has access to ShowCase's Warehouse Builder, which has been integrated into IBM's DB2 OLAP solution as DB2 OLAP Builder. ShowCase Warehouse Builder transforms and simplifies data from AS/400 transactional data tables as it is being moved. It assists in moving enterprise data to the AS/400 by transforming online transactional data into meaningful information and can be used to create both relational and multidimensional databases with its power and flexibility.

"Today's release of the IBM DB2 OLAP Server marks a significant milestone for IBM, ShowCase and the thousands of AS/400 customer organizations who will benefit from the power of this fully integrated server platform to meet their rapidly growing Business Intelligence and analytic needs," saID Ken Holec, president and chief executive officer, ShowCase Corporation. "We are proud to share in the development of DB2 OLAP with IBM and to now offer our Enterprise Intelligence solutions to a significantly broader base of IBM AS/400 customers who need more sophisticated analytic capabilities to maximize their ROI (Return On Investment) The monetary benefits derived from having spent money on developing or revising a system. In the IT world, there are more ways to compute ROI than Carter has liver pills (and for those of you who never heard of that expression, it means a lot). ."
