IBM's product lines include the S/390 mainframes (zSeries), AS/400 midrange business systems (iSeries), RS/6000 workstations and servers (pSeries), Intel-based servers (xSeries)  Japan, the Kyoto Medical Center, the Kyoto Council for Information Society and Auto-ID Labs The Auto-ID Labs network is a research group in the field of networked radio-frequency identification (RFID) and emerging sensing technologies. The labs consist of seven research universities located on four different continents.  Japan have obtained positive results from a trial of an RFID-based drug tracking system.

The trial, which used 60 different Mitsubishi Pharma Mitsubishi Pharma Corporation (三菱ウェルファーマ株式会社   products, was conducted at the Kyoto Medical Center from March 6 to 16. In the trial, the partners verified the usability of the tracking system and succeeded in monitoring the entire flow of drug use, from shipment to administration.

Going forward, the partners will proceed with further research with the aim of commercializing a tracking system that helps prevent medical mistakes.
