IBM Filed Suit Against Informix.


IBM (International Business Machines Corporation, Armonk, NY, www.ibm.com) The world's largest computer company. IBM's product lines include the S/390 mainframes (zSeries), AS/400 midrange business systems (iSeries), RS/6000 workstations and servers (pSeries), Intel-based servers (xSeries)  Corp. of Armonk, NY filed a patent lawsuit lawsuit: see procedure; tort.  against Informix Corp. in the U.S. District Court in Delaware, alleging that the Informix software utilizes technology patented by IBM from 1981 to 1992, and dealing with such matters as the way data are stored and linked together to other data. IBM argues that it had alerted Informix to its patents and is seeking compensatory damages A sum of money awarded in a civil action by a court to indemnify a person for the particular loss, detriment, or injury suffered as a result of the unlawful conduct of another.  and enforcement. Informix indicated that it will vigorously resist the suit and will file counter suits.
