IBM EXPANDS AD CYCLE REDEVELOPMENT OFFERINGS
WHITE PLAINS, N.Y., July 7 /PRNewswire/ -- IBM (NYSE: IBM) today announced an expansion of its software redevelopment strategy with the introduction by KnowledgeWare, Inc. (NASDAQ: KNOW) of a new Operating System/2(Footnote A) (OS/2)(Footnote A) 2.0-based set of tools in support of IBM's AD/Cycle(Footnote A) framework.
The tools from KnowledgeWare, based in Atlanta, are designed to help customers develop antiquated COBOL applications into systems that are simpler and less expensive to maintain.
The Application Development Workbench(Footnote B)/Maintenance Workstation provides programmers using workstations with graphical facilities for inventory analysis, program understanding and reengineering.
These new tools will integrate with the products and components of AD/Cycle, IBM's framework to speed and simplify application development.
KnowledgeWare already offers AD/Cycle products in the application planning, analysis and design phases of the framework.
Catherine J. Lewis, Director of Application Development Marketing, IBM Programming Systems, said, "KnowledgeWare is a strong AD/Cycle International Alliance Member and we are delighted that they have expanded their role within the AD/Cycle framework."
IBM today also named VIASOFT, Inc., based in Phoenix, an IBM International Alliance Member for AD/Cycle, providing redevelopment tools. Alliance members Bachman Information Systems, Inc., INTERSOLV, Inc., and Micro Focus have AD/Cycle redevelopment products for maintenance and reengineering.
IBM will continue to work with all the alliance members to provide offerings for software redevelopment.
The other members of the Alliance are Digitalk, Inc., Easel Corp., and SYNON, Inc. AD/Cycle is an open framework through which IBM and its partners provide products that help automate and improve quality and management of the application development process, resulting in faster development with fewer errors.
The Application Development Workbench/Maintenance Workstation will be available from IBM in December. The Application Development Workbench/Maintenance Workstation includes a new graphical maintenance facility and an OS/2 graphical user interface for KnowledgeWare's currently available host-based redevelopment tools, ADW(Footnote B)/Inspector, ADW(Footnote B)/Pinpoint, and ADW(Footnote B)/Recoder.
