IBM AND CLS SIGN LOGISTICS CONTRACT

FORT WAYNE, Ind., Aug. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- IBM (NYSE: IBM) and Customized Logistics Services (CLS), North American Van Lines' contract logistics subsidiary, today announced agreement on a new logistic contract.
"CLS has a menu of services suited to meet the needs of IBM," said Parris Beverly, director of Business Development for CLS. "Our information technology will supply IBM with timely and accurate information regarding inventory levels and shipment status. In addition, we are well positioned to meet IBM's requirements for transportation, shipment consolidations, delivery times and other related services."
North American Van Lines, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Norfolk Southern Corporation (NYSE: NSC), Norfolk, Va., has been providing logistics services to numerous customers for several years through its High Value Products (HVP) division. CLS was formed as a result of a restructuring in HVP and the need to meet customers' growing need for contract logistics services.
"Restructuring and dedicating a group to focus on contract logistics was a logical step which enables us to expand our existing relationship offerings," said Rob Shearer, vice president and general manager of Customized Logistics Services. "The IBM contract is consistent with my vision of the type of services through which CLS will be successful.
"This contract enables CLS to increase the number of Distribution Centers in our network, expanding our capacity and presence in the contract logistics market," said Shearer.
