IBM AND ALTEC LANSING ANNOUNCE RE-MARKETING AGREEMENT
BRINGING AUDIOPHILE SPEAKERS TO IBM MULTIMEDIA CUSTOMERS
ATLANTA, May 27 /PRNewswire/ -- IBM Multimedia and Altec Lansing Consumer Products announce the signing of a remarketing agreement that makes specially designed audiophile speakers available to multimedia computer users through the IBM Multimedia Information Center at 1-800-IBM-9402, ext. 161.
The Center provides a single point of contact for information on the Ultimedia (See Note) family of products and programs. Potential customers can receive information on IBM's multimedia offerings, and software developers can inquire about the IBM Ultimedia Developers Program.
"We are offering Altec Lansing Multimedia computer speakers to our customers because of their unique ability to provide a quality audio enhancement to our multimedia systems," said Steven C. Solazzo, director, multimedia marketing and support at IBM (NYSE: IBM).
"We are thrilled to be adding our knowledge of consumer audio products to IBM's pioneering role in the computer market, including their recent leadership in the dynamic multimedia area," remarked Altec Lansing Consumer Products Chairman and President Edward Anchel.
The patented Altec Lansing Multimedia ACS300 and ACS200 models will enhance business presentations, training, education, advertising, music and video production with digital audio. The speakers are fully- compatible with the PS/2 Ultimedia M57 SLC, IBM's multimedia personal computer.
Conventional audio speakers were not designed with the computer user in mind and the practice of hooking up regular speakers to a personal computer does not take advantage of the audio potential of the computer.
Altec Lansing Multimedia ACS300 and ACS200 models can be plugged into the PC audio or video on any personal computer to vastly enhance any application with the same level of digital audio quality heard from a music compact disk (CD). These computer speaker systems can also be used with any multimedia home computer, CD player or video interactive game to provide a total intelligent audio solution that is practical and affordable.
Altec Lansing Multimedia Computer Speaker Systems include: two self-powered electronically controlled satellite speakers with four-inch magnetically shielded woofers and 1/2-inch ferrofluid cooled dome tweeters in each; digital signal processing (DSP) circuit; separate bass, treble, balance, volume, subwoofer, DSP and A/B mixing controls and magnetic shielding. ACS300 also includes a separate powered subwoofer utilizing a unique multi-path acoustic chamber design with two 4-inch long-throw woofers.
Altec Lansing Consumer Products manufactures 32 different autosound products and 29 home loudspeaker models, including home theater surround sound speakers.
