IBM/DETROIT TIGERS STUDENT PENNANT RACE

 IBM/DETROIT TIGERS STUDENT PENNANT RACE
Rain or shine, 1,000 area seventh-graders will join IBM Corporation

and the Detroit Tigers at the IBM/Detroit Tigers Student Pennant Race picnic at 5 p.m. Wednesday, May 20, in Matthaei Athletic Building on the Wayne State University campus. (Corner of Warren and John C. Lodge Service Drive.)
The students were selected for the program by their teachers on the basis of a positive attitude toward education and their community. Each student brings an adult guest. The 2,000-person crowd and the message from IBM and the Tigers that "We like your attitude," make for a great photo opportunity.
At the picnic, the students and their guests will have a chance to meet 1968 Olympic gold medalist Spencer Haywood (a Pershing High School graduate and 14-year professional basketball veteran); WDIV-TV's Emery King; General Superintendent of Detroit Public Schools Dr. Deborah McGriff; Wayne State University Senior Vice President of University Relations Dr. Walter Strong; and Vice President and Controller of the Detroit Red Wings Mike Wilson.
Following hot dogs, chips and a brief program at 6 p.m., the students and their guests will be bused to Tiger Stadium where they'll be treated to the Tigers-Baltimore Orioles game. One student pennant winner will be selected at the picnic to throw out the first pitch before the game starts at 7:35 p.m.
