IBEX gives Columbia's Uris Hall a new public image.


IBEX ibex (ī`bĕks), wild goat, genus Capra, found in rugged country on mountain ranges from central Asia to the Himalayas, S Europe, and NE Africa.  Construction has completed the lobby renovation project for Columbia Business School's Uris Hall, located at 116th Street between Broadway and Amsterdam Avenues.

IBEX provided construction management services for the project, which included the refurbishment of the two-story entry hall and first-floor lobby, as well as the Student Academic Affairs Suite. The 4,400 s/f area was completed in time for the beginning of the fall semester.

"We were very pleased to open the academic year with the new Uris Hall lobby," said Glenn Hubbard, Dean of Columbia Business School Columbia Business School (part of Columbia University), officially named the Columbia University Graduate School of Business, and also known as CBS, was established in 1916 to provide business training and professional preparation for undergraduate and graduate . "The renovated space has become a popular gathering spot and has generated positive feedback from students and faculty alike."

"The contemporary updates and finishes modernize Uris Hall's public areas without dominating the existing architecture," said Andy Frankl, president of IBEX Construction.

Originally designed by Moore and Hutchins and completed in 1964, the architect for the renovation of Uris Hall was Belmont Freeman of New York City.
