IBEW Local 164 names new president.


John M. DeBouter of Oakland, N.J., has been named president of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) is a labor union which represents workers in the electrical industry in the United States and Canada, particularly electricians, or Inside Wiremen, in the construction industry and linemen and other employees of public  (IBEW IBEW n abbr (US) (= International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers) → sindicato internacional de electricistas

Comprised of more than 3,900 members, the Local represents electricians active in Bergen, Hudson and Essex counties Essex County can refer to:
  • Essex County, Ontario, Canada
  • Essex County, Massachusetts, United States of America
  • Essex County, New Jersey, United States of America
  • Essex County, New York, United States of America
 as well as telecommunications technicians throughout the state.

Prominent Local 164 projects include Xanadu in East Rutherford Rutherford (rŭth`ərfərd), borough (1990 pop. 17,790), Bergen co., NE N.J., a residential suburb of the New York City–N New Jersey metropolitan area; inc. 1881. Several pre-Revolutionary houses remain there. ; Newark Arena in Newark; Goldman Sachs The Goldman Sachs Group, Inc., or simply Goldman Sachs (NYSE: GS) is one of the world's largest global investment banks. Goldman Sachs was founded in 1869, and is headquartered in the Lower Manhattan area of New York City at 85 Broad Street.  Building in Jersey City; and the Secaucus Transfer Station in Secaucus.

In his new role, DeBouter will supervise the Local's internal membership operations, including administration of the local's rules and by-laws, commit tee and trustee appointments and financial management. Additionally, DeBouter serves as director of the Local 164 Training Academy.

Prior to his current position, DeBouter served as a business representative and assistant training director/instructor for the electrical division. He completed his apprenticeship training in 1987 and worked as an electrician for 11 years. He is a graduate of Glassboro State College.
